Message from The Dean
I welcome you to the School of Geosciences (SoG) at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
The School Geosciences is made up of a dynamic group of disciplines made up of atmospheric and climate science, geography and sustainability, geology, and geospatial sciences. We tackle key issues facing society emanating from mother earth and the four interdependent parts called “spheres”. The spheres are the lithosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and atmosphere. These spheres are so closely connected that a change in one sphere often results in one or more of the other spheres. Our teaching and research about these connected spheres include climate change, resource management and sustainability.
At UENR, the School of Geosciences has multiple interdisciplinary programs geared towards solving modern-day socio-environmental issues, including, the curriculum provides students with a strong foundation in the fundamental principles of geoscience, while also exposing them to cutting-edge research and technology in the field.
The biggest hole ever dug by man can be found at Kimberley, South Africa,
and it was dug using hand tools only.
Over a period of about 40 years, 25,000,000 (25 million)
tons of material was removed,
to net around 3 tons of diamonds
