DEAN'S WELCOME
MESSAGE

I welcome you to the School of Geosciences (SoG) at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).

The School Geosciences is made up of a dynamic group of disciplines made up of atmospheric and climate science, geography and sustainability, geology, and geospatial sciences. We tackle key issues facing society emanating from mother earth and the four interdependent parts called “spheres”. The spheres are the lithosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and atmosphere. These spheres are so closely connected that a change in one sphere often results in one or more of the other spheres. Our teaching and research about these connected spheres include climate change, resource management and sustainability.

At UENR, the School of Geosciences has multiple interdisciplinary programs geared towards solving modern-day socio-environmental issues, including, the curriculum provides students with a strong foundation in the fundamental principles of geoscience, while also exposing them to cutting-edge research and technology in the field.

We also catalogue the earth resources and devise techniques to explore and exploit the earth resources responsibly and sustainably. We study the earth complex surface including the oceans, atmosphere, rivers and lakes, and soils are also studied. Our studies include deciphering the history and possible future paths of Earth’s evolution and many aspects of how living things, including humans, interact with the Earth.

We also investigate the past, measures the present, and models the future behavior of our planet. Our approach is multidisciplinary and that makes the teaching environment so conducive for both staff and students. We see the earth and the people as our laboratory giving us more things to research into. Our network with industry makes the practical and professional aspects of the student training so seamless in marrying theory to practice.

As a student, you will learn how to analyze problems and work out solutions. You will have opportunities for hands-on experience outside of the classroom, in the field and laboratory. Our programs provide students with the hands on practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to pursue careers (locally and internationally) in the geospatial industry, energy and mineral resources industry, environmental consulting, government agencies, research institutions, and academia.

We invite you to be a part of the School of Geosciences.
