Admission Requirements

The University has four entry routes:

  1. Entry by means of SSSCE/WASSCE (Entry at Level 100)
  2. Foreign student (Entry at Level 100)
  3. Entry by means of the mature students (Entry at Level 100)
  4. Entry by means of professional certificates and tertiary level diplomas depending on assessment of the diploma and performance at interview.

The general admission requirements for the various entry routes are as follows:

SSSCE Candidates: To be admitted to the BSc. in Geoinformation Science programme, SSSCE Candidates should have Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and Core Science/Integrated Science or Social Studies; For students with science background, any three elective subjects from Chemistry, Physics, Biology/General Agriculture/Forestry are required. For Students from General Arts background, a candidate will be required to have a) Elective Mathematics and Geography, and any one from b) History, Government, Economics.

WASSCE Candidates: WASSCE Candidates should have Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and Core Science/Integrated Science or Social Studies For students with science background, any three elective subjects from Chemistry, Physics, Biology/General Agriculture/Forestry are required. For Students from General Arts background, a candidate will be required to have a) Elective Mathematics and Geography, and any one from b) History, Government, Economics.

In addition, SSSCE and WASSCE Candidates should have at least a grade D and C6 in Social Studies, respectively.

Foreign Applicants

  1. Passes in six science subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
  2. Other Qualifications: Other qualifications acceptable for consideration for admission include International Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE, GCSE, American Grade 13 examinations and other external qualifications which have equivalences to the WASSCE/SSSCE and the GCE (A Levels).
  3. Foreign certificates will be sent to the National Accreditation Board for assessment and advice.

Mature students’ entry avenues to tertiary education provide opportunities for people who could not do so earlier in their lives to further their education at the tertiary level after some years in the workplace (preferably, the formal workplace). Such applicants should normally not exceed 5% (for Public Tertiary Educational Institutions) and 20% (for Private Tertiary Educational Institutions) of the total admissions of an institution in a given academic year. The applicant must:

  1. Be at least 25 years old by beginning of the academic year one wants to enrol.
  2. Show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of birth date which is at least 5 years old at the time of application.
  3. Provide introductory letter from employer or show any other proof of employment.
  4. Pass Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations conducted by UENR (English Language, Mathematics and an Aptitude Test). In lieu of such examinations, the applicant should show proof of passes in English Language and Mathematics in SSSCE/WASSCE or any other nationally recognized standard High School level examinations (qualifications from countries outside WAEC’s NAB will be consulted).

  1. Candidates in this category must:

    1. Possess a professional or Higher National Diploma (HND) or its equivalence in a relevant programme from a recognised institution (e.g., Science, Agriculture, Forestry/Natural Resources, Climatology, Meteorology, Geography, Engineering etc.).
    2. Pass an interview.
    3. Have two years post qualification working experience.

     

    Candidates with HND/relevant professional or diploma certificates who obtained 2nd Class lower and above / distinction and a strong pass in all related programs such as Geoinformation Science, Sciences, Agriculture, Forestry/Natural Resources, Climatology, Meteorology, Geography will enter at level 200. Those with HND/Diploma in other relevant areas other than the above will enter at level 200 if successful at an interview.
