Four faculty members: Dr. Caleb Mensah, Dr. Richard Kyere-Boateng, Dr. Naomi Kumi and Dr. Nana Agyemang Prempeh, from the Department of Atmospheric and Climate Science (DACS) of the School of Geosciences (SoG), University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) participated in an ERASMUS+ ICM Exchange Programme at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU), Slovakia.
The programme which spanned from November 23, 2023, to December 1, 2023, aimed to promote academic collaboration, knowledge exchange, and international partnerships in atmospheric and climate science and spatial planning. This forms part of the efforts of DACS to promote ongoing collaboration and internationalization within the Department and UENR as a whole.
Key among the activities engaged in by the team during the visit included the delivery of lectures by Faculty Members from both institutions, research seminars showcasing projects and identifying collaborative opportunities and participation in activities enhancing mutual understanding and collaboration among others.
Both institutions at the end of the programme gained a significant exchange of methodologies that have the potential to enhance academic resources, strengthen professional relationships, laying the foundation for future collaborations, identify common research interests and potential joint initiatives as well as a deeper understanding of Slovakian culture and vice versa, fostering a more global perspective. It was notable the two Universities expressed interest in continuing collaboration through joint programs and research initiatives. From the deliberations a formal MoU has been established, paving the way for the first cohort of students to study at STU in Slovakia between April and June 2024. The cohort would comprise five undergraduate and two postgraduate students.
